Toronto has officially opened its first new transit line in more than two decades, marking a major milestone for commuters across the city.

The long-awaited Finch West LRT, now designated as TTC Line 6, is fully operational, connecting Humber College to Finch West Station along an 11-kilometre route with 18 stops. Designed to move an estimated 52,000 passengers per day, this new light rail line brings faster, more reliable service to one of Toronto’s busiest corridors.

To celebrate the launch, TTC riders enjoyed free trips on opening day, creating a lively and excited atmosphere along the route. For many, this was their first opportunity to step aboard a brand-new TTC transit line since 2002. The Finch West LRT represents the most significant expansion of Toronto’s transit network since the Spadina Subway extension, offering improved service for students, workers, and residents across the northwest region.

Line 6 was built to enhance accessibility and reduce congestion on an already busy stretch of the city. The route links directly with Line 1 (Yonge–University) and several major bus connections, making transfers smoother and commutes more predictable. Part of the transit line operates above ground, giving riders the chance to enjoy open views of surrounding neighbourhoods—an experience not possible on underground subway routes.

Although originally expected to open in 2023, the project encountered delays and budget challenges, similar to the ongoing Eglinton Crosstown LRT. These setbacks only heightened anticipation, and opening day saw a steady stream of riders eager to try the new service. Many expressed excitement not only about the modern trains but also about the long-overdue investment in transit for Toronto’s northwest communities.

The launch of the Finch West LRT also strengthens connections to supporting transportation services, from public transit buses to private options such as charter buses.

As transit infrastructure grows, Layman Transport remains committed to supporting mobility across the Greater Toronto Area. Whether for student groups, corporate travel, community organizations, or special events, Layman Transport provides dependable charter bus services that integrate seamlessly with Toronto’s expanding transit network. With professional chauffeurs and modern vehicles, the company continues to help passengers travel comfortably to and from major transit hubs, including areas served by the new Line 6.

The opening of the Finch West LRT marks a promising new chapter for Toronto commuters—one that brings improved accessibility, better connections, and a more efficient way to move across the city.
