2017 is a very important year for Canada for two reasons - it’s the 375th anniversary for the vibrant city of Montreal, but its also Canada’s 150th birthday as a Confederation. Historians will know that Canada was established as a colony in 1534, but it wasn’t until 1867 that the union between Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick came into being. And so, it’s time for the country to celebrate. There are festivals, projects and a vast array of activities planned to take place across the whole country. Some of the larger events include Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day in Quebec, the Winterlude, the Ottawa-Gatineau 150 Kick Off, National Aboriginal Day on June 21, Canadian Multiculturalism Day and the Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa. Events will be taking place in Canada’s cities, national parks and most iconic historical places. For those interested in taking a more active part in the celebrations, then there’s also plenty of ways to volunteer or hold events. The anniversary is a great opportunity to demonstrate pride in the Canadian identity. For the patriotic, there’s a chance to demonstrate pride for the Canadian spirit by taking part in the Canadian Flag challenge #CanadianFlag #Canada150.
